1,500 horsepower, $2.6 million Bugatti Chiron revealed

 Bugatti revealed the first images of Chiron, the successor to the Bugatti Veyron. At 1,478 horsepower, 500hp more than its predecessor when released in 2005. Bugatti says 150 of them have already been sold since last November when the company first revealed the car. The name is a tribute to Louis Chiron, who raced for Bugatti in the 20’s and 30’s and was the most successful driver for the brand.

Such power is obtained with a robust 8-liter W16 engine combined with an automated dual-clutch transmission. The maximum torque is 163.14 Nm at 2000 revolutions per minute, according to the brand, that is part of the Volkswagen group. The Chiron’s maximum speed is 420 km/h (electronically limited) and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is estimated at 2.5 seconds. The car is also about 150kg heavier than Veyron,7 cm longer, 5 cm taller and 3.8 cm wider; the wheelbase is only 1 mm larger.

The riding height may vary according to the selected suspension mode: 5 are possible, including “Lift”, ideal for low speeds, it increases the height for speed bumps and irregular road. The other modes are Auto, Autobahn, Handling and Top Speed. The supercar debuts today at the Geneva Motor Show, and will have a limited production of 500 units selling at US$2.6 million each.
